About Us
Rob is an experienced employment practitioner, investigator, Human Resources Manager and Coach.
After almost 23 years in the government sector, Rob started Gold Law in order to build a business around the things that are important to him: working with people and companies to resolve employment relationship problems, sport and getting flexibility in the workplace in order to achieve a better life balance.
Rob's most recent government position was as a Legal Advisor: Employment Relations where he gained significant experience in:
- Resolving employment relationship problems;
- Conducting complex employment investigations;
- Representing the employer at both mediation and in the Employment Relations Authority;
- Developing and delivering performance management training; and
- Providing advice on employment contract interpretation.
Rob has the ability to quickly understand the issue and come up with a pragmatic solution. He favours an approach that looks at working through the issues and sees the adversarial nature of litigation as a last resort.
Gold Law's client base incudes a number of government departments, a major national service organisation, private entities as well as private individuals.
Rob is a current, elected Board member of Basketball New Zealand. He is also the immediate past Chair of New Zealand's largest employer based sporting organisation. Under Rob's reign the organisation was rebranded, implemented a strategy to ensure its relevance and financial sustainability, and reviewed its governance structure to ensure the right things were being done by the right people.
Although an Otago man through and through, Rob settled in Wellington over 20 years ago and has a strong connection to the Porirua area. A self-professed expert on all things sport related, Rob's sporting career lives on vicariously through his children and through his coaching of school and representative basketball teams.
